Results of a new study indicate that traffic noise can go a long way to increasing the risk of high blood pressure.
Speaking from personal experience, this study finding is one that I agree with, as I used to live near a busy road that had traffic on it constantly.
Swedish researchers performed a study that showed that people exposed to more than 60 decibels of traffic noise a day were at risk of heightened B.P.
They based their conclusions upon the analyzing of up to 28000 questionnaires submitted by people dealing with traffic noise and associated stress.
Traffic noise can be very annoying, especially at times of day when you would like quiet time, for example when you go to bed.
"Road traffic is the most important source of community noise," said the lead author of the study, Theo Bodin, from Lund University Hospital, Sweden, in a news release. "We found that exposure above 60 decibels was associated with high blood pressure among the relatively young and middle-aged, an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke."
