Human Right Watch Accuses Wal-Mart of Exploiting Labor Laws
An international human rights group has accused giant U.S. retailer Wal-Mart of violating the rights of its workers by exploiting weak U.S. labor laws.
In a 210-page report released Monday, New York-based Human Rights Watch says Wal-Mart uses sophisticated tactics to thwart union organization and create a climate of fear for its one-point-three million American workers.
The report says Wal-Mart begins to indoctrinate workers and managers to oppose unions from the moment they are hired.
But Wal-Mart rejected the report as untrue and unsubstantiated.
In a statement Monday, a Wal-Mart spokesman said Wal-Mart gives employees every opportunity to express their ideas, comments and concerns.
The spokesman said that is why Wal-Mart employees have repeatedly rejected unionization.
